The Mode Indicator
To the right of the COMMAND MENU is a small portion of the window that displays the current mode of the
window. The mode display changes automatically depending on your actions in the
window.
The current mode of the system determines which commands are available in the COMMAND MENU. Depending on the current mode, one or more of the push-buttons in the COMMAND MENU may be dimmed, making it impossible to select them.
or each of the modes described below, the push-buttons that are inactive are
shown with dimmed type. For those modes where the PREV and NEXT commands are
available, PREV will not be active if the first record in the database is
currently displayed in the window. Likewise, NEXT will not be active if the last record
in the database is currently displayed.
No Mode
When the MODE INDICATOR is blank, no mode is in effect. This occurs after you first open a window
(before you enter any data) and after using the CANCEL and DELETE commands.
With No Mode active, your only options in the COMMAND MENU are to locate a record using the FIND window, EXIT and return to the MENU BAR, or use the PREV or NEXT commands. When no mode is active, NEXT displays the last record in the database and PREV displays the next to the last record in the database.
DISPLAY Mode
As soon as you open a record, the display changes to DISPLAY MODE. As long as you do not make a change to any of the fields in the window, the
system remains in the DISPLAY MODE.
Your options in the COMMAND MENU, while in the DISPLAY MODE, are to FIND a different record, display the previous or next record with the PREV or NEXT command, or to EXIT the window and return to the MENU BAR.
DISPLAY ONLY Mode
There are three reasons the system might be in the DISPLAY ONLY MODE: your system manager has specified in the USER SETUP WINDOW that you should have READ ONLY access to the window, or you are using a multi-user version of Contract
Collector and another user on the network has the same record open that you are
viewing or you are viewing a reversed transaction in the GENERAL LEDGER.
Your COMMAND MENU options, while in the DISPLAY ONLY MODE, are to FIND a new record, view the previous or next record with the PREV or NEXT command,
CANCEL the currently displayed record and clear all fields in the window, or
EXIT the window and return to the MENU BAR.
ADD Mode
The ADD MODE becomes active as soon as you enter a new ID number in the window's ID field
(the first field in the window) and press ENTER.
In ADD MODE, you can SAVE your work, CANCEL your work and clear the window, or EXIT to
the MENU BAR.
EDIT Mode
Whenever you open an existing record and make any change to it, the system
goes into EDIT MODE. The mode changes from DISPLAY to EDIT as soon as you press ENTER after editing a field within the window.
While in EDIT MODE, you can either SAVE your work, CANCEL your changes and clear the window, or EXIT and return to the MENU BAR.
