The FoxPro® Database
Comtronic Contract Collector is an application developed within the FoxPro for
WindowsTM database management system, published by Microsoft Corporation. According to
the May 11, 1993 issue of PC Magazine, FoxPro for Windows offers "spectacular performance in addition to a rich
development environment."
Originally developed in the 1980's as a DOS application, FoxPro was first
released in a Windows version during the summer of 1993. The DOS version was well
known for its speed, and the performance of the new Windows version proved to be
excellent as well. As an article in PC Computing magazine put it at the time,
"Like the DOS version, FoxPro for Windows is fast. Across the board, we found
speeds to be comparable to the DOS version's tradition." The article goes on to
call FoxPro "easy to use—we can't imagine a better introduction to the Windows
environment for DOS database users."
Comtronic Contract Collector for Windows is designed from the ground up to
take maximum advantage of FoxPro's speed and ease of use. Furthermore, CW makes
full use of the FoxPro for Windows graphical user interface. This means a
significant boost in productivity resulting from the use of a mouse, pull-down menus,
push buttons, dialog boxes and overlapping windows that can be resized and
scrolled.
Other advantages of the Windows interface include efficient memory management,
which enhances system performance even further. And with Windows, you can run
more than one DOS or Windows application at a time and switch easily from one
application to another.
