Peer to Peer Sharing

Comtronic Software will run on Windows 95 as a network operating system.

Set up the server drive so that all other users have full access to the Comtronic Software Directory and Subdirectories.

Before installing the Comtronic Software on the computer that will be the server, create a subdirectory call SHARED. This should be the subdirectory that all shared applications will be installed that other work stations will have access to. Make sure you set the subdirectory as SHARED. (Go to the MY COMPUTER icon on the Windows 95 desk top. Select the C: drive icon, select the SHARED folder icon. Once the SHARED folder is selected, press the Rightmouse button and select the SHARING option from the menu. Select the SHARED radio button option).

Install the Comtronic Software under the SHARED directory. Example:

C:\SHARED\CPMW

After installing the Comtronic Software on the station that will also be the server, you will need to map a drive letter on each work station that will access any of the programs on the servers shared directory. (Go to the NETWORK NEIGHBORHOOD on the Windows 95 desk top. Select the SERVERS computer icon. Select the SHARED folder icon. Press the Rightmouse button and select the MAP NETWORK DRIVE menu option. Select an unused drive letter for the map). Now setup an icon to run the Comtronic software. When looking for the Comtronic Directory always look on the mapped drive letter.

NOTE: DO NOT TRY TO RUN THE COMTRONIC SOFTWARE FROM THE NETWORK NEIGHBORHOOD ICON WITHOUT MAPPING A DRIVE LETTER, OR WINDOWS 95 WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FIND THE DATA FILES UNDER THE PROGRAM FILE. THIS WILL CAUSE THE PROGRAM TO REPORT THE ERROR "ONE OR MORE OF THE DATA FILES COULD NOT BE FOUND".

Tips:

------

Make sure all the program files in the Comtronic Program directory are tagged as Read Only files.

(ATTRIB +R *.*)

Make sure all the files in the DATA and REPORT subdirectories are tagged as READ/WRITE/CREATE/DELETE access.

(ATTRIB -R *.*)

If you expect heavy traffic on the network, you can install the program files on each work station's hard drive and install the data on the hard drive of the server. This will help limit the number of Reads and Writes over the network. In the program directory of the software, there is a file called DATALOC.CPM or DATALOC.CCS, edit this file with a file editor. This file stores the full path where the data is located. You must edit this file on each station you install a copy of the program on. NOTE: if you install the program using this method, remember each time you install a program upgrade, you must install this upgrade on every copy of the program.
