Highlighting Text
Several techniques for highlighting text make editing easier, especially when
you are making extensive changes to the contents of a field. Once you highlight
text, you can delete it with the DELETE key or type new text, which replaces
what you have highlighted.
To highlight a single character:
- Position the mouse pointer to the left of the character.
- Press and hold the mouse button.
- Drag the pointer to the right of the character and release the mouse button.
To highlight a range of characters:
- Position the mouse pointer just before the first character you want to
highlight.
- Press and hold the mouse button.
- Drag the pointer to the right of the last character you want to highlight and
release the mouse button.
You can also click and drag from right to left to highlight text. If there are
multiple lines of text (in a NOTES field, for example), you can highlight text by clicking in one line and
dragging directly up or down into another line.
To highlight a single word:
- Position the mouse pointer over any character in the word you want to
highlight.
- Double click the mouse button.
To highlight a range of words:
- Position the mouse pointer over any character in the first word you want to
highlight.
- Double click and hold the mouse button.
- Drag the pointer to the last word you want to highlight and release the mouse
button. You can drag the pointer to the right, left, up or down — all words
between the first and last word will be highlighted.
To highlight an entire field, or one line of text in a multi-line field:
- Position the pointer anywhere within the field or line.
- Triple click the mouse button.
To highlight a range of lines in a multi-line field:
- Position the pointer anywhere within one of the lines.
- Triple click and hold the mouse button.
Drag the pointer up or down within the field to highlight additional lines and
then release the mouse button.
