For Peer-to-Peer Networks Only
- If you are running LANtastic, Windows for Workgroups, Windows 95 Network or
another peer-to-peer network, all files in the CW directory must be set to read-only status using DOS's ATTRIB command. In DOS, change to the CW sub-directory and then type the following commands:
ATTRIB +R *.*
- Check the AUTOEXEC.BAT files of the computers running Contract Collector to make sure that write
caching is turned off. For write caching to be disabled, the SMARTDRV command in AUTOEXEC.BAT should be followed by a drive specifier — the drive where the CW directory is located.
Example: SMARTDRV C
If you are using a write caching program that was included with your network
software (LANtastic's LANcache, for example), make sure to delete the SMARTDRV command from the AUTOEXEC.BAT file of any computer in the network being used as a server.
- All workstations (including non-dedicated file servers) must remap the drive
using the NET USE command for LANtastic, or the equivalent command for other networks.
- There should be no write caching or write delays on any workstation or
fileserver.
- Specifically for LANtastic, users must disable NetManager's Lock Hold Time
parameter by setting it to zero. This will improve station response time
dramatically. If other software requires this lock setting, set it at the lowest setting
of 2.
